What is Mimickers of Multiple Sclerosis about?
Many conditions can mimic multiple sclerosis (MS) in clinical presentation and radiographic appearance (Box 20.1). The conditions that mimic MS can span a wide spectrum of causes, including non-MS in ammatory conditions, immune-mediated diseases, infectious diseases, genetic diseases, nutritional de ciencies, and even medications. The key to the correct diagnosis depends on carefully evaluating the onset and course of the disease and identifying clinical features, risk factors, and typical radiographic features. This chapter reviews the di erential diagnosis of focal and multifocal presentations of diseases mimicking MS and also reviews selected diseases in more detail.
