What is Chemical Amendments and Phytoremediation about?
Due to population growth in the world, anthropogenic activities such as industrialization, urbanization, transportation, agriculture, and inappropriate waste disposal methods have increased . This has caused an increase in the contamination of environmental resources by heavy metals (HM), becoming a major problem in various parts of the world . It is well known that HM are not degradable by biological or chemical processes, so they persist in soil or water for a long period . Due to their persistence, HM are introduced into the food chain by plants and ultimately accumulate in the human body through biomagnification, causing cell malfunction and toxicity . For this reason, it is extremely important to apply remediation measures to prevent HM from remaining in the soil, atmosphere, and water. Although there is a wide variety of techniques to clean soil and water contaminated with HM. These physicochemical, mechanical, and biological techniques often have limitations, such as high cost, damage to the soil ecosystem, and the secondary pollutants introduction . The phytoremediation is a strategy that uses plants to capture, remove, and degrade pollutants in situ in soils, surface, and
