## Abstract Seizures may occur in patients with cancer as a consequence of direct central nervous system invasion by tumor cells, adverse effects of treatment (surgery, radiation, systemic therapies), systemic infections in immunocompromised patients, or from metabolic derangements resulting from the effects of systemic cancer (e.g., hypocalcemia, hyponatremia). Antiseizure medications (ASMs) are thus indicated in patients with cancer who present with epilepsy; however, patients with cancer are also at a high risk for drug-drug interactions. As well, chemotherapeutic agents may lose effectiveness when enzyme-inducing ASMs are prescribed. It is advisable to use ASMs that do not interfere with the cytochrome P-450 enzyme complex.
