What is Skin Histology: Structure and Functions about?
The skin has two main layers - the epidermis and dermis. The epidermis is made of stratified squamous epithelium with basal, spinous, granular, and horny layers. The dermis contains blood vessels, hair follicles, and glands. Skin has important protective, sensory, and temperature regulating functions. Thick skin on hands/feet lacks hair and glands. Thin skin contains these structures and has a thinner epidermis.
