## Abstract Movement disorders are a group of clinically, pathologically and genetically heterogeneous neurological conditions that clinically manifest as a perturbation in normal motor function. They are categorized into two major groups: hyperkinetic (chorea, dystonia, myoclonus, athetosis, tics, tremor, stereotypies) and hypokinetic movement disorders. Patient history and the neurological examination remain the most important factors when approaching movement disorders. Once a phenotype is established, subsequent imaging, genetic and serologic testing can elucidate the exact diagnosis. Motor symptoms and psychiatric symptoms are highly integrated. Psychiatric manifestations are very common in diseases that are recognized as movement disorders, movement disorder manifestations are very common in psychiatric conditions.
