Tarzan is hunting for food in the remote mountains of Kaffa, Abyssinia. As he stalks a buck, a group of mounted bandits called Shifta observe him from a distance. When the buck is frightened away, Tarzan turns and discovers the Shifta bearing down on him with weapons drawn, intending to kill him. Tarzan swiftly shoots four of the bandits with arrows from his short but powerful bow. He then leaps upon the horse of the remaining bandit and kills the man, taking his mount.
