About this Engineering article
Thermodynamic Description of Ultrasonic Attenuation in Metals by D. Jou; F. Bampi; A. Morro is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.
In order to account for the behaviour of ultrasonic waves in metals, recourse is made to a scheme, within non-equilibrium thermodynamics, where relaxation phenomena are influenced by spatial gradient terms. On the basis of this thermodynamic model the dispersion relation is derived and then, under suitable approximations, explicit expressions for wave speed and attenuation are obtained. Comparison of these results with known microscopic expressions provides numerical values for the coefficients which are compatible with the thermodynamic restrictions.
It is typically read by researchers, students, and practitioners in Engineering.
