What is The Action of Sodium on Phenoxybromosilanes about?
A study of the reactions between phenoxybromosilanes and metallic sodium has been made with the aim to find analogy with corresponding reactions of phenoxychlorosilanes. The experiments were accomplished under the same conditions as those described by THOMPSON and KIP PIN^) for analogous reactions of phenoxychlorosilanes. It has been found, however, that the final products were not similar to those found by the two authors. Besides tetraphenoxysilane, sodium bromide and free silicon sodium phenolate was found among the products in each case and occasionally compounds having Si-Si bond. On the ground of experimental data as well as the results of analyses of the obtained prodcuts a new mechanism for these reactions has been suggested. 12 new simple and convenient procedure for analysis of the reaction product has been developed, allowing for simultaneous determination of all constituents of the insoluble residue. ## Inhaltsiibersicht Die Reaktion ewischen Phenoxybromsilanen und metallischem Natrium wurde nntersucht, um Analogien zu entsprechenden Reaktionen der Phenoxychlorsilane aufzufinden.
