Besifloxacin ophthalmic suspension 0.6% is a novel fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for bacterial conjunctivitis. It works by inhibiting the bacterial enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. In clinical trials, besifloxacin was more effective than placebo and noninferior to moxifloxacin at treating bacterial conjunctivitis. It was generally well tolerated, with adverse effects mostly being mild.
