What is Naphthalene Melting Point Determination about?

Group 6 determined the melting point of naphthalene. They placed powdered naphthalene in a sealed capillary tube and immersed it half way in liquid paraffin in a beaker, monitoring the temperature with a thermometer. The naphthalene began melting at 78°C and fully melted at 82°C, giving a calculated melting point of 80°C with 0.32% error compared to the exact value of 80.26°C. Figures 1 and 2 show the calculations and solutions.
