Understanding Dialysis: Definition & Types by vwyldr is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Dialysis is a process that removes waste and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys are failing. There are two main types: hemodialysis which filters blood through a machine and returns it to the body, and peritoneal dialysis which uses the lining of the stomach to filter blood. Dialysis is needed when the kidneys lose 90% function and can no longer remove wastes, as a temporary treatment until the kidneys recover or permanently if kidney function does not improve.
