Chinua Achebe was a Nigerian writer born in 1930 who is renowned for his novels depicting life in Nigeria under British colonial rule. He attended university in Nigeria and London, where his first novel, Things Fall Apart, was published in 1958 to international acclaim. The novel presented a new perspective on colonialism from the viewpoint of Africans.
