About this document

Provo Canyon Geology Overview by Barbara Nielson is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Provo Canyon features various types of rocks, including igneous rocks like obsidian that are around 20 million years old, and sedimentary rocks like sandstone and shale that range from 160 to 400 million years old. Most of the rock units in Provo Canyon have been deformed by faults and folds, creating ridges and valleys through which the Provo River flows. The geology of Provo Canyon makes it prone to hazards such as landslides, earthquakes, and floods, but also provides water resources and mineral deposits
