This study compares the use of high-flow nasal therapy (HFNT) to standard oxygen therapy (SO) as a complementary treatment to non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for acute respiratory failure. The study found that HFNT was as effective as SO in terms of time on NIV but resulted in greater patient comfort and prevented increases in respiratory rate and dyspnea seen with SO during breaks from NIV.
