Fernando Pugay and Benjamin Samson were charged with murdering Bayani Miranda at a town fiesta in Rosario, Cavite in 1982. While Pugay and Samson were making fun of Miranda, Pugay poured gasoline on him and Samson set him on fire, burning Miranda to death. The court found Pugay guilty of homicide through reckless imprudence for failing to recognize the danger of pouring gasoline on Miranda. Samson was found guilty of homicide with ordinary mitigating circumstances for intending only to set Miranda
