While at the University of Konigsberg, he befriended Hermann Minkowski and Adolf Hurwitz, who greatly shaped his mathematical career through extensive discussions. Hilbert went on to study under Felix Klein at the University of Leipzig and helped establish Gottingen as a center of mathematics through his work there
