Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) uses intermittent administration of antimalarial medicine during peak transmission seasons to prevent malaria in children. In 2016, SMC reached only 10.2 million of the estimated 25-30 million children who need it annually. Limited production of the required antimalarial drugs constrains scale-up to reach the 2017 target of 14 million children. Efforts are underway to increase drug availability and encourage new manufacturers to help close the protection gap of 11-16 m
