What is Systematic vs. Random Word Building Test about?
The experiment aimed to study the effect of systematic vs random word building procedures on creative imagination. Subjects were given letter sets and asked to make as many words as possible under each condition. For the random condition, subjects could build words in any order. For the systematic condition, subjects had to start with each letter and build all possible words from it. Most subjects built more words under the systematic condition, supporting the theory that it facilitates directional thinking
