What is Rizal about?

Rizal went to Europe to further his medical studies in ophthalmology. He spent time in Paris, Germany, and other cities. While abroad, he observed different societies and political systems. He struggled financially at times but continued his studies. Rizal published his first novel Noli Me Tangere in 1887 while in Germany, which generated controversy for its criticism of the Spanish colonial system in the Philippines.
