cited the German in the footnotes (cf. e.g. the English translation of Jens Schröter, Erinnerung an Jesu Worte on p. 43 and then the original German of Schröter's text in nn. 130-132 on p. 43). This made Huebenthal's text more readable and at the same time provided access to the original in the footnotes for interested readers. Later in the bibliography, she provides an asterisk (i.e. \*) to clarify when she quoted from an English work, which added further clarity to her text. This practice of consistently citing the German also explains the length of Huebenthal's text: although 638 pages initially seemed quite lengthy, much of it was accounted for by the extensive footnotes in which she consistently cited the original German. Huebenthal's text raises valuable questions about whether memory-texts can be historiography (i.e. convey the history of people and events). Huebenthal seems to favor the former option, that is, reading the Gospels as memory-texts of later communities of Jesus followers and analyzing these texts to show us the nature and concerns of these communities, rather than trying to decipher what these Gospels reveal about the historical Jesus (p. 76; also p. 184).
