Landsat 8 has two sensors that capture 11 bands of imagery with varying spatial resolutions. The Operational Land Imager collects visible, near infrared and shortwave infrared bands at 30m resolution, while the Thermal Infrared Sensor collects two thermal bands at 100m that are resampled to 30m. The additional bands, including band 1 for coastal studies and band 9 for cirrus detection, provide more accurate data than previous Landsat satellites.
