Analysis of a railway bridge in Hamburg -optimisation of steel quantity by means of finite plane elements. The statical analysis of a railway bridge above the road "Fuhlsbütteler Straße" in Hamburg was carried out by means of finite plane and bar elements and not as a pure strut and tie model. This allowed a relatively simple optimization of the structure as many proofs could be led on the overall system. This concerned the operational safety proofs under the DS 804 regulations as well. In the following some fundamentals and the experiences made by the authors with this proceeding are presented.
