Lattice Defects in Colloidal Silver by Lutz Kleeberger; Henner Ruppersberg is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Lattice Defects in Colloidal Silver about?

Colloidal silver, supplied by E. Merck, Darmstadt, has been studied by X-ray diffraction and by electron microscopy. Large peak shifts and strongly asymmetrical line profiles indicate large probabilities of deformation and twin stacking faults. According to the Warren-Averbach analysis and to an analysis of the integral breadth the particles contain strong microstrains. From these two methods mean particle sizes of 7.5 and 12.5 nm were calculated which agree well with the observations from the electron micrographs. The distribution function of the effective particle size exhibits two maxima which are probably due to a non-statistical distribution of stacking faults. The lattice parameter, corrected for stacking faults, deviates less than 0.5°/,. from the corresponding value of a wellannealed standard sample with a particle size of about 50 um.
