What is Understanding Locked-In Syndrome about?
Locked-in syndrome (LIS) is a rare neurological condition caused by damage to the pons region of the brainstem. It is characterized by quadriplegia, paralysis of limbs and vocal cords, with preserved cognitive function. Those affected are fully conscious but can only communicate through eye movements or blinking.
