The study is concerned with the analysis of Roman paintings with a Nilotic theme. In particular, the first part of the study focuses on an introduction of the classical texts on Egypt and landscape depiction in Roman Art. After a state of the art is given, the iconographic-archaeological catalogue of the 74 painting is developed. The catalogue elaborated is founded on specific scientific criteria and the classification into three categories according to iconographic composition. The corpus data is followed by an analysis of the archaeological contexts in which these paintings are found, an analysis of the Nilotic iconographies and a definition of the 'Nilotic landscape'. The volume is also completed by an iconographic apparatus and several maps of the geographical and chronological spread of these records.
