Volume one of eight, the eighth being an index for the previous seven. Includes a Preface (pg III to VIII) the explains the need for an introduction. The introduction pg(XXIII to XCIV) and notes are written by B. H. Roberts. It is an overview prophets preaching the gospel from Adam to shortly after the Roman Emperor Nero. This first Volume starts with an introduction to Joseph Smith and ends in the Jackson County period. Most of the sections of the Doctrine and Covenant are included somewhere in these seven volumes.
