Sepsis definitions have evolved over time. The current definition from 2016 (Sepsis-3) defines sepsis as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated immune response to infection. Incidence of sepsis is high, with studies showing rates of around 300-780 cases per 100,000 people. Mortality from sepsis and septic shock also remains high. Sepsis treatment guidelines were updated in 2018 and focus on early antibiotic administration, fluid resuscitation, and vasopressor use for hypotension. Future
