Non-ferrous metals/Nichteisenmetalle ## 94-1791 Curious Coloring of Amorphous Copper-Valve Metal alloys. (Book Chapter). Amorphous and crystaliine Cu-Ta. Cu-Ti and Cu-Ti-Ta 81loys were prepared by magnetron sputtering. Some of the alloys became reddish by air exposure due to preferential oxidation of copper but some others were Stable. Instead of the preferential oxidation of Cu. preferential dissolution of Cu in aqueous solutions is required for utilizing me toxic property of Cu alloys for some bacteria and fungi. For disinfection of ringworm the alloys coated on insoles must be corrosion-resistant in sweat, but Cu must dissolve continuously from the alloys at a very slow rate in sweat. The alloys which turned reddish by heat treatments for forming the insoles at 80°C for 60 min or at 170% for 5 min in air dissolved at a considerably high rate in an artificial perspiration. By contrast. the Cu-45Ti-13Ta alloy which did not turn reddish by the heat treatments showed a high corrosion resistance in the artificial perspiration. and continuous dissolution of Cu at a very slow rate from the alloy was observed.
