A zipper is a commonly used device for binding the edges of an opening in fabric or other flexible material. It consists of two rows of interlocking teeth attached to a tape. A slider moves along the rows to join or separate the teeth. American inventor Whitcomb Judson invented and constructed the first workable zipper in the late 19th century. Zippers are now widely used in clothing like jackets and pants, bags, tents and other items to bind openings or join/separate parts of the item.
