About this document
Understanding the First Law of Thermodynamics by Jeferson Rosales is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed in form (sentence 1). It applies to closed and open systems. For any system, the energy entering minus the energy leaving equals the change in stored energy (sentence 2). For a closed system like a piston cylinder device, the heat transfer plus the work equals the change in internal energy (sentence 3).
