What is Analysis of Duffy about?

This poem is loosely based on Beauty and the Beast but presents a different viewpoint where the beast remains a beast in human form. It focuses on powerful women who are in relationships with very ugly men who are extremely grateful to the women for staying. These women take on traditionally masculine roles. The poem links various sources like fairy tales to examine expectations of gender relationships and challenges stereotypes by presenting Mrs. Beast as a character who dominates her partner.
