What is Transformer Dielectric Dissipation Analysis about?

This paper aims to evaluate the capacitance and dielectric dissipation factor (DF) of 170 brand new distribution transformers in Brazil. Measurements were taken using a Schering bridge. The DF analysis is based on limits from IEEE standards and aims to infer insulation quality prior to use. A considerable number of samples had DF greater than the limit for good insulation condition.
