After 1935 and the formation of the Luftwaffe, he transferred out of the infantry and into that service where he operated as a fighter pilot with JG 132 and JG 26, upto his new posting in June 1937. The newly promoted Oberst von Below now aged 29 was personally chosen by the Luftwaffe's Commander Hermann Goering, to become The Third Reich's new leader Adolf Hitler's, own personal Luftwaffenadjutant. He was meant to only hold this position for a few years at most, before handing over to his replacement.
