Potenciano Taneo was convicted of parricide for wounding his pregnant wife, who later died, during a violent episode where he also attacked guests in his home. On appeal, the Supreme Court found that Taneo acted while dreaming and his acts were involuntary due to a lack of motive and evidence he loved his wife. An expert witness also found Taneo acted in a dream state and not in his right mind. The Court ruled Taneo was not criminally liable but should be confined to an insane asylum until deemed no longer
