Mozambique has significant unexploited mineral resources potential according to exploration reports and studies. The Geological Survey of Finland created a database of over 600 mineral occurrences in Mozambique as part of a capacity building project. Field surveys from 2003-2005 assessed 140 of these occurrences and identified areas with high potential for commodities like coal, heavy minerals, gold, and industrial minerals.
