About this document
Heathrow Runway Mixed Mode Explained by The Independent is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Under current rules at Heathrow Airport, arriving aircraft land sequentially on one runway while departing planes queue on the other runway, limiting total hourly movements. Mixed mode operations would allow an arriving aircraft to land and immediately clear the runway so that a departing aircraft can take off, increasing total hourly movements from 87 to 108 and potentially handling up to 87 million annual passengers.
