New York City is made up of 5 boroughs - Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island. Manhattan is the most famous and iconic borough, known for its dense skyscrapers like the Empire State Building and Chrysler Building. In the early 20th century, New York pioneered tall building design and became known for its skyline of towering structures. However, the September 11th attacks destroyed the iconic World Trade Center towers in lower Manhattan.
