Hydrocephalus is a condition where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) builds up in the ventricles of the brain due to an obstruction in the ventricular system. This causes the ventricles to dilate and become enlarged, disrupting the ventricle lining and subarachnoid space. The CSF buildup damages the arachnoid granulations, which can no longer properly absorb CSF into the venous blood. This increased intracranial pressure leads to expansion of the skull.
