The methyl esters of monochlorinated propenoic and 2-butenoic acids and their Clz, BrCl and Br2 reaction products were separated on an OV-101 capillary column with temperature programming. The unsaturated esters are eluted in the order and their halogenated products in the order of increasing molecular weights. The BrCl compounds with geminal dichloro substitution have lower retention than their regioisomers with geminal bromochloro substitution, As a consequence of the relatively higher retention times of the 2,3,4-trihalo isomers, some geminal BrC12 and Br2Cl homologues have lower retention than the vicinal Cl3 and BrClz isomers, respectively.
