What is Proton conductivity in BaTb0·6In0·4O(2·8+y/2)Hy, a new compound with the simple perovskite-like structure about?
The water uptake in the new perovskite-like compound BaTb 0Á6 In 0Á4 O 2Á8 , further called BTI40, has been measured in situ by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) at dierent temperatures and water vapour pressures. For the standard enthalpy and entropy of solution the following values were deduced: The grain interior electrical conductivity, s gi , of a BTI40 pellet has been measured in the dry state and for proton concentrations of 2 . 3, 3 . 3 and 3 . 7% in the wet state by impedance spectroscopy. In the range from 100 to 450 C, in which the proton concentration is frozen in, s gi increases linearly with the proton concentration, being about a factor of 50 larger than that in the dry state. The activation energy of the proton conduction is found to be (0 . 650 . 01) eV.
