This study examines gender differences in emotional reliance and its relationship to depression among a sample of 1,393 adults in Toronto. Findings indicate that women exhibit greater emotional reliance than men, which is significantly associated with higher rates of depression, particularly among women. Additionally, social status factors such as education and marriage influence emotional reliance, with education reducing reliance and marriage increasing it, especially for men.
