What is Enamel Translucency and Rehydration Effects about?

This study measured the translucency of human dental enamel through total light transmittance. Translucency was highest at longer wavelengths and decreased after dehydration due to the replacement of water with air around enamel prisms. Translucency was restored after rehydration. Dehydration for 15 minutes in a desiccator significantly reduced translucency compared to air drying or the wet condition, but longer desiccation times did not further decrease translucency.
