This study investigated the ability of a probiotic preparation to reduce ochratoxin A (OTA) levels in chicken feed. Chicken feed was contaminated with either 1 mg/kg or 5 mg/kg of OTA. After 6 hours of fermentation with the probiotic, feed with 1 mg/kg OTA saw a 73% reduction in OTA levels, while feed with 5 mg/kg OTA saw a 55% reduction. The probiotic preparation, containing Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains, was effective at detoxifying OTA in chicken feed during fermentation.
