The characteristics of a displacement Brayton cycle engine are examined from the point lof view of assessing size and efficiency for a specified level of power output. The work is centered on the potential incorporation of Britalus work components into a Brayton cycle engine which operates efficiently in the 10-500 kw power output range. Airflow capability and friction losses as well as structural loads are specifically considered in detail. The results show that the effect of mechanical friction is important in determining the relation between specific power and efficiency and that the power output level scales with the square of the appropriate length scale to make possible an attractive class of practical heat engines with continuous combustion.
