To avoid settling of solids in slurry transport systems, minimum flow velocities must be maintained based on the type and size of solids in the slurry. Fine solids require velocities between 1-1.5 m/s, sand between 1.5-2 m/s, coarse solids between 2-3.25 m/s, and sludge between 3.25-4.25 m/s. Pipeline diameters can be adjusted to increase or decrease velocities as needed.
