What is Suspense: A Stanley Hastings Mystery Novel about?
If you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere. Just ask Stanley Hastings, Parnell Hall's lovable, loquacious, and ever resourceful private detective, a man better suited to signing up accident victims for his conniving attorney boss than getting into the middle of a steamy murder case. But leave it to Stanley - when a bestselling author's beautiful wife comes knocking on his door, he's more than willing to endure a little bit of suspense. The agent thinks the plot won't sell. The cop thinks Stanley's a moron for not milking the job. And the publicist wants Stanley to buy a copy of Kenneth P. Winnington's latest book. Even if no one in New York seems to take him very seriously, Stanley has his standards, and he's determined to find who is making the threatening phone calls to Winnington's winsome wife. (After all, he is getting paid $500 a day to do it.) Before Stanley can finger a suspect, a murderer strikes, and suddenly Stanley realizes that this case isn't really about Winnington, his wife, or his novels. This is the story of a Private Eye in Jeopardy.
