The nitrogen generation system (NGS) removes oxygen from ambient air to create nitrogen-enriched air (NEA). The NEA is pumped into the center fuel tank to reduce oxygen levels and prevent combustion. The NGS uses a heat exchanger, air separation module, and other components controlled by the nitrogen generation system controller to filter air and lower the oxygen content before exhausting NEA into the center tank.
