What is Understanding Avgas: Types and Properties about?

Avgas is an aviation fuel used to power piston-engine aircraft. It contains tetraethyl lead, which enhances combustion stability but is toxic. The most commonly used grade is 100LL, dyed blue, which has a lower lead content than previous grades but still contains lead. Several other grades exist or existed with varying lead content and octane ratings. While some aircraft are certified to use automotive gasoline, most require avgas grades due to design restrictions of their piston engines.
