Pluto was discovered as the ninth planet in 1930 but its status was later questioned with the discovery of the Kuiper Belt. Eris, an object in the Kuiper Belt larger than Pluto, led to Pluto being reclassified as a dwarf planet along with other objects unable to clear their orbits. Recent observations have speculated a potential Planet X may exist beyond the Kuiper Belt, but this remains unconfirmed.
