The purpose of this four-volume series is to present to the American people the views and recommendations of the Commission on the subject of preventing either the occurrence or the progression of chronic disease.The first part of this book is built around a series of 21 conclusions and recommendations presented in the context of a cogent discussion of such subjects as the promotion of general good health, prevention of the occurrence of disease, early detection of disease. The second section of the book is devoted to a series of summaries of the status of preventive measures for most of the major chronic diseases and impairments. The final part of this volume contains an account of the origins and history of the Commission on Chronic Illness.
